Family Week At The Lake: Part I

I've had a full summer with lots of fun with people and I haven't even documented our family week at the lake yet!  It happened in July, so clearly I'm BEHIND.

Coborn's has a great selection!  We picked up the fruit and veggies for the week.

There were wrestles:

We even did some balance/flying practice!

"THIS WAY TO THE SAND BAR!"

My parents on their anniversary:

There was reading (in some atypical positions!)

The girls and I kayaked to the pelican island and saw these cute little birdie footprints!

Plus little seashells.

It probably was the last time I'll be able to kayak in the same boat as Esme; she's getting too big!
Greg and I bought some more kayaks, so we can take them up next year and kayak as a group of FOUR if we want!

We played along the shore.

We also celebrated our birthdays all together, which Greg christened "Faux Day".

The girls helped make the frosting and frost the cake!

They MAY HAVE eaten some whipping cream, as well!

Look at my delightful family!

There was chocolate cake and I made some delicious vegan gluten-free chocolate cupcakes with a lovely glaze.

We opened lots of presents and
one of Greg's gift bags became a hat!

I got to play this shapes/puzzle game with the girls.

And we played space ship on the propane tank and danced a bit of polka,

Mark and Jillian had figured out how to raise monarch caterpillars and watch them turn into chrysalises and then into butterflies!  They brought this net container along and we got to watch it happen!

Greg did a sped up video of it happening!!!

Later in the week, we made some fudgesicles by freezing chocolate pudding.  I think the recipe needs some tweaks, but they weren't terrible!

The girls and I got to kayak a few times, and we enjoyed viewing the creatures and the beauty of nature.

Cute frog:

Beautiful still water:

BONUS: a shoe filled with muck (oops - I mean, valuable lake bounty!)

Tune in next time to join our trip to Itasca!
