Switzerland Day 8: Mount Titlis (The Highest Suspension Bridge In Europe!)

Good morning!  Let's go walk across the highest suspension bridge in Europe together!

We woke up with views of the mountains.

And the lake!

The stadium was getting set up for an event.

Stretching together:

The second bathroom in this accommodation had a see-through door - eek!

More money details:

I was able to make a smoothie because we had a fridge and freezer, so I was able to get some frozen fruit.

My parents were pretty worn, and my Mom was sick (allergies? a cold?), so they decided to have a down day.  It was a good idea because the day ended up being FUN, but looooong and full of people and tight quarters.

Such a pretty view from our balcony!

We were on the 4th floor.  We were a bit nervous about the "room key" part of this place because there was no room key!  The door just opened with the app (and only Greg downloaded the app).  But it worked every time!

The walls along the way to the train station were painted with underwater scenes.

A sign talking about plants and animals in the area:

Here's a sign for the Horw football (soccer) club!

And here's an adorable "climate friendly" post delivery vehicle!

Here's my outfit for the day!

I love this ad!

"Shoggi Alarm?" (Chocolate emergency?)
"Nein - Durst!" (No, thirst!)

The idea of a chocolate emergency is great!

These lines direct people to the right place at the train station.

Made it to the train!

This cute train was painted for kids:

We made it to Engelberg!

Greg got a yummy sandwich!

I ate stuff I had brought with me, also a sandwich plus chocolate, of course!

Greg snuck up on me!!!

We walked along a river to get to the location of the cable car station.

There were cute puns on the signs.
"Don't give the snake (line or queue) any chance!"

It wasn't very busy when we arrived and we got our own cable car!

We were off!

It was very quiet and spitting a bit of rain.
I could hear the bells from the cows on the hills.

Down through the seat to the ground below:

Look at the beautiful view!

We remained seated because we wanted to go up further!

From Greg's perspective (with more gears):

from Christie's perspective:

We reached 2428 Meter über Meer (meters above sea level)
= 7966 feet above sea level

And then we got into the rotating cable car to take us the last distance!  We were very squished during this part:

And we were in the clouds!

We arrived at the top and investigated, trying to find the suspension bridge.

It was very slippery, and there were only these ropes to hold on to.
Many people were falling down.

The views were not great, because it was so cloudy!

Around 9900 ft above sea level!

There was a shop at the top where people could get their photos taken in Tracht (traditional clothing).

When we arrived, many of the attractions were closed due to the weather.

Weather predictions for the upcoming days:

We investigated everything else we could see there.

There was a glacier "grotto"!

Rocks embedded in the ice:

This is how they kept the glacier grotto cold and the inside of the building NOT cold:

This is a relatively new attraction, and there was a lot of ongoing construction up there.

The suspension bridge was still closed, but we discovered vegan gluten-free sorbet in one of the restaurants!

With cute little spoons!

When we finished our snack, I decided I was going to go find the suspension bridge and find out if I could go across it!

And it was OPEN!!!

Greg said that it was helpful for the weather to be bad because the clouds meant he couldn't see DOWN and be afraid of heights!

I prefer heights over enclosed spaces and I LOVE chilly blustery weather (as long as I can go inside and get toasty and cozy again when I'm ready)!!!

Would you be scared to walk across this mesh bridge above a deep canyon with rock walls falling away below you?

We did it!

Greg didn't even need to cover his eyes, thanks to the clouds!

It must've been really scary to build this bridge.

We were chilly but happy on the way through the building on the way back to the cable car.

I bought a cute hat and mittens to celebrate our bravery.

Oh!  And a scarf!

This is "sprinkler central"!

Back into the cable car!

The cable car was quiet enough that we could hear the bells of the cows!
It was lovely and peaceful.

Once we were down from the mountain, we headed back to Horw with some trains, then a bus.

This girl had beautiful hair and I liked her outfit:

Good night, stadium (finally quiet!)

Heading to Zürich tomorrow!
