While I do go out once per week to get groceries, but I don't feel safe going out and about as casually as in the past. Even though the stay-at-home orders have been lifted, Arizona is one of the states where the infection and death rates are rising again, and quickly.
Since we CAN continue to stay at home, we ARE continuing to stay at home.
But I have a shopping itch. I have money. I want to support businesses so they can stay open and keep their employees working! So I've bought stuff online. My main targets this summer so far have been midi-length skirts (now that they're back in style I can finally find them again in the stores!) and jewelry (because I love it and it makes every outfit better!)
Here are some of the things I've bought lately. Because we haven't been shopping much, stores have a lot of merchandise they need to sell, so most of these things were significantly on sale (hooray!)
I've decided that this summer I want a bunch of midi skirts I can wear with the many printed t-shirts I have. I think the casual nature of t-shirts pairs well with the longer hemline and it feels fresh and funky right now. I have worn pretty much the same uniform (and the same pieces!) through the past 3 or 4 summers, so I'm happy to shake it up a little bit.
Here it is on me!
(I don't have lighting as great as in the above picture - sorry!)
Here it is on me!
Here it is on me:
I have loved wearing the above skirts so much that I ordered a bunch more midi skirts to try. Since I can't try any of these on before purchasing, I'm buying things I like, then sending back the things that don't work (like in the olden days!) Here are some I love that haven't arrived yet . . . (I'll update when I know what didn't work and what did). I just have to say how obvious it is that these are inspired by the slip skirts I wore in the 90s! The strappy sandals and everything. I loved them then, I love them now.
Taking pictures of earrings while they're being worn is tough, and I don't love seeing my face up that close, but I tried! These are little double hoops. I have a number of pairs of dangle hoops now, and I love them all! I love to switch them out and none of them go unworn. This pair is bigger, making them bolder and more noticeable. I think they're especially nice for summer for some reason. I expect to be passing my jewelry down to my nieces and friends when I die, so I don't mind investing for sure.
The following things did not work for me . . .
The first two were too small (juniors) and didn't have any curve to it around the hip and butt area, so they weren't flattering. Plus, they were 100% rayon (probably would've shrunk) and had a weird texture.
I love tiny dots and tiny florals!
Well, to be honest, almost any pattern if it's tiny!
This skirt was billowing and not sleek like I had hoped.
This one just didn't fit well and it was indecent how clingy the fabric was.
This skirt I bought in two sizes just to be sure I got the right one.
A-line denim skirts are extremely difficult to locate, and my old one is seriously elderly - I bought it when Mervyn's still existed near when Greg and I first moved to Arizona (1996). I suspect it may be 20 years old. I still love it (though soon it will not be decent to wear because of where the holes are . . . perhaps I can put fabric under the holes somehow so I can keep wearing it!)
Neither of these worked. Even the bigger size fit weird - too tight in the waist (very high rise)
and too loose and baggy in the hips. I didn't like the material, either.
There you have it!
Have you bought anything new lately?
How are you thinking of updating your wardrobe this summer?
