SuperBowl Party & Shopping With Mom

First I have to say that my parents brought me beautiful tulips while I was recovering from the flu!
It's a HUGE BLESSING to have them nearby in the winter.  They bring me lots of joy.

We always celebrate the Super Bowl as if it's a holiday because we
don't get to spend every holiday together.

I made these yummy chocolate chip cookie bars.
They dried out really quickly, but they were GOOD, so I'll try to make them again but I'll add moisture somehow.

My parents' place is comfy and fancy at the same time.
Their house in Minnesota is the same way.

They had prepared lots of snacks!!!

See my feet?

By halftime, Mom and I were back with pizza!

We got pretty relaxed and enjoyed ourselves fully!

On to our most recent shopping adventure!
But first: beautiful scissors.
A number of pairs of scissors at our house have broken lately,
and I wanted PRETTY ones!

This is just funny - while creating my morning smoothie, I spilled the
amla powder alllllll over.  Thankfully I didn't waste much.

My Mom and I got to shop together again!
My brother and his sweet family are coming to visit us in Arizona
soon, so we bought some goodies . . .

Of course, we had to try some stuff on, too.

Here's what I was wearing:
t-shirt: Maison Jules (Macy's)
skirt: Rekucci (Amazon)
bag: ABage (Amazon)
shoes: Target

We then went to Panera, where we ate nummy food.

Even though it's right on a busy road and right next to a mall, the view was nice.

We didn't want to miss Target!!!
And I tried on a beard, which I rather liked.

There we are in the creepy self-check-out camera monitors . . .

Other than those fun things, I've been working and snuggling cats.
Look at those sweet babies!

They have been getting snuggles from Daddy, too.

They like to be with me in my office during the day while I'm working.

Sometimes getting pretty relaxed!

We have been very much enjoying the Olympics around here, too!
Sometimes along with Pinterest or reading blogs/reddit.

he forgets to mute the commercials!)

Look at Claude's magnificent tail!

Stephen has been inventing new ways to droop off things . . .

The weather has cooled off a bit for a while, which is LOVELY.
It was far too warm most of January and February so far,
and it didn't feel as if we had a winter at all this year.

One of our Chinese Elm trees.

I have tried a couple of new recipes, some of which didn't turn out.
This one did, though: it's a thick lentil stew,
which I ate on top of mashed potatoes (no butter or milk).
I'm pretty hungry right now and this photo is making my stomach growl!

Yesterday, on Valentine's Day, we had RAIN!!!

I took some flowers over to my parents.
My Mom had created these beautiful centerpieces
for a Valentine's Day party in their community.
She's extra super great at anything with decorating, home design,
furniture arrangement, or entertaining/hosting.
(Plus lots of other things!)

Aw!

They bought me a gift, too: this little tray of (faux) succulents!
Adorable and unkillable!!!
They look GREAT on the coffee table.

And now to close out this post, MORE CUTE CATS!!!

Our new bird feeder has been attracting the birds, even
though it's attached (via suction cups) directly to the window
and there are often cats sitting right there.

I hope you have a relaxing evening like ours - filled with fuzzy sweetness from

Though human cuddles are often even better!

Cruelty-Free & Vegan Body And Hair Care

Here I am again with some more cruelty-free products for you!
I have done lots of research and experimenting, and these are the products that have
won my little Christie heart.

Lotion -
Andalou Naturals Clementine Ginger
Smells wonderful, sinks in quickly, keeps my skin smooth.
Andalou Naturals Clementine Ginger Energizing Body Lotion, 8 Ounce

Hand lotion -
Andalou Naturals Shea & Cocoa Butter Clementine
My hands are chronically dry and flaking (sometimes cracking open - ouch!)
and this is one of my favorite ways to help them feel better.
Andalou Naturals Clementine Hand Cream, 3.4 Ounce
I also love shea butter as a deep moisturizer for my skin -
but be careful to keep your socks and slippers or shoes on until it sinks in or it will squidge all over your floors!
NOW Shea Butter, 7-Ounce

Shampoo -
Andalou Naturals
Sunflower & Citrus
Smells GREAT and does a good job of cleansing without over drying.
Andalou Naturals Sunflower & Citrus Brilliant Shine Shampoo, 11.5 Ounce
Conditioner -
I use a lot of different conditioners because my hair is dry and long.
My favorite is this one by Andalou Naturals:
Andalou Naturals Sunflower & Citrus Brilliant Shine Conditioner, 11.5 Ounce

But I also use this one on top of the above one when I need some extra moisture:

Andalou Naturals Argan Oil Plus Deep Conditioner, 5.8 Fluid Ounce

I don't use products in my hair after washing it because my hair is very fine and I found that products gunk it up, make it sticky, and weigh it down.

That's pretty much all the body and hair care products I use.
I will return soon with a post about my favorite cruelty-free home care products!

Cruelty-Free Skin-Care Products

Since becoming vegan two and a half years ago, I have learned a lot more about how animals are treated in order to make our lives more convenient.  I am NOT OKAY with another sentient entity suffering because I want thicker eyelashes or smoother skin.

I no longer purchase products that are tested on animals.

I have done a LOT of experimenting in the past two + years, and I have tried a lot of different products.  I know there are lots of people out there who are interested in making similar changes in their lives, so here are the products I'm currently using.

Skin Care

This is very lovely and smooth and hydrating.
I've been using it for years.
Mad Hippie Antioxidant Facial Oil Mad Hippie Skin Care 30 mL

Skin Treatments

It's gentle, creamy, and it smells great!
Mad Hippie Cream Cleansor, 4 oz

Anti-aging product -

I'm starting out VERY slowly with this one because it can cause flaking and irritation if used too heavily.  Skin needs time to adjust to it.  So far I haven't had any of those side effects AND it appears to be helping the texture of my skin be smoother and more consistent.
I started out using it one time per week, and I did that for one month.  Now I'm using it twice per week for a month.  I will continue that pattern until I'm using it every night.
Using it on top of the antioxidant oil makes it less potent.

This serum is light and has helped the texture of my dry skin.  I use it every night over my antioxident oil.

Vitamin C Serum -

My doctor recommended vitamin C serum, and so do a lot of skin care experts.

I love skin care!
The better my skin looks, the less make-up I need.
I have found that my skin has been less smooth and nice since my health conditions started getting worse, and I'm working hard to get my whole self (including skin!) in the best shape possible.

I should also mention that there are other brands that offer similar products for different prices (many more, some less), but I really trust and love the Mad Hippie brand.  The packaging is gorgeous, the bottles are sturdy and elegant, and the customer service is helpful.  Also, the products WORK, but gently.  I feel healthier AND prettier using them.

Make-Up

Foundation -

I've tried a lot of  foundations, and I have hated a lot of foundations.
This one I love!  It's shiny but covers what I need it to cover.
I do follow with powder.
Gabriel Cosmetics, Vegan,Moisturizing Liquid Foundation, Pale Ivory, 1 Ounce

Powder -

This can be used as foundation on its own, but I find it a little cakey if I layer it as much as I need to to cover the redness on my cheeks.  It's a great texture over the very moisturizing foundation above.

Blush -
Beautiful color and it also has a nice sheen that acts as a highlighter!

Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls Blush, Natural Pearl, 0.15 oz.

Eyeshadow primer -

I've tried other brands, but this one is great!
I love that it's flesh colored so it evens out the eyelid color even before eyeshadow.

Eyeshaadow -

I love this one.
Inexpensive, great colors, not too dusty, and the "base" color is perfect all by itself.
I feather the "line" color into my eyebrows to thicken them a bit.

Eyeliner -

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum, Ultra Black, 0.016 Ounce

Lip balm -
Hurraw
My favorite flavor is cherry because the color is lovely.
Black Cherry Tinted (2 Pack) Hurraw! Lip Balm: Organic, Certified Vegan, Certified Cruelty Free, GMO Free, Gluten Free, All Natural – Luxury Lip Balm Made in the USA – BLACK CHERRY TINTED (2 Pack)

Lipstick -
My favorite color (so far!) is Gem.

Mineral Fusion Lipstick, Gem, .14 Ounce

Scent:

When my health problems started getting worse, typical perfumes started bothering me a LOT.
I want to smell nice, but I want to be non-toxic (to myself and other people!)
I love the smell of this lovely scent.  To me it smells like a light bubblegum fragrance.
A friend told me she smelled patchouli, but that's not the stand-out component for my nose.
It also has the benefit of being calming and focusing!
Aura Cacia Organic Chakra Balancing Roll-On, Enlightening Crown, 0.31 fluid ounce

I will follow this with posts about cruelty-free body care and cruelty-free home care.

I hope it's helpful to you.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have;
leave them in the comments below.

Happy Friday!

Super Blue Blood Lunar Eclipse

Greg and I got up and out the front door by 6:05 on Wednesday to
see the super blue blood lunar eclipse!

Find out more about this phenomenon here:

We needed to bundle up because it was only 46 degrees (F).

I was out the door earliest because I was really excited.
My little camera captured this above our house . . .

It was BEAUTIFUL!
I wish I had studied more about astronomy because it baffles me
while at the same time intriguing me.
There is always something new to learn in this big universe.

Greg brought out the tripod and the fancier camera.

We walked down to the corner so we had an unobstructed view.

Here's our street.
You can see how CRAZY RED the moon was!!!

I have a wimpy (though beloved!) little camera,
but Greg's is pretty good, and he was able to capture some fantastic
images of the moon.

with blurry airplane

I was happy that I was able to get a picture of this star!

The sun began to rise, and the moon began to be eclipsed by
the earth between it and the sun.

Goodnight, moon!

Did you get to see this glorious astronomical event?
