Job Over!

For those of you who know the "new" job that I recently accepted (that I had really been doing for 10+ years as a volunteer), the last four months have been TERRIBLE with figuring out that I had no support to do what I was hired to do and that it therefore was not going to work.  About a month ago, Greg and I decided that I shouldn't fight a losing battle anymore, and I submitted my resignation.  The relief has been tremendous.  We are sleeping better, singing more silly songs around the house, and enjoying life much more.  I am straightening up things for my team so they will be stable after I'm gone, and I expect to be finished before the end of the year.  So if you have checked back and wondered, "Where are the cute photos and videos of those adorable kittens?!" . . . well, hopefully you have an answer.  I was too overwhelmed with figuring out my job and trying to function to organize anything.  But I'm now feeling more like myself than I have for a long time - hooray!

Allistair and Stephen are now almost seven months old.  They are the most LOVING and people-centric cats I have ever known.  I guess that's what comes from being stolen sneakily away from their mother and being snuggled every day afterwards ad nauseum.  Greg was just wondering today if we "socialized" them a little too much.  Not possible!

So here are some adorable pictures. Videos are being edited and will be posted soon.

They love each other and snuggle frequently.

Allistair's cute widdle facey . . .

This is my sweet girl, Juildeen.  Allistair took to her right away.  He crawled up in her lap and settled in.  She said, "Cute little kitten."  (She has Autism, but she talks a LOT now and expresses herself better all the time.  I'm very proud of her!)

Stephen is like a model with his lovely high cheekbones!

I was glad to see that Allistair covering up his boy bits!

When we try to put clean sheets on the bed, Allistair hurls himself into the middle of everything.  We have to stop and cuddle him, which disturbs his hunting process.

Since most of you who follow this blog are my family members and friends, I thought I would include this funny picture of Juildeen.  We hang on on Tuesdays, and last time we made ginger snaps.  We practice measuring things and following directions and motor skills.  I was very impressed.  She decided that ginger snaps taste like Christmas.  Smiling AND looking at the camera is a bit much for her still, but I like the silly smile.

More snuggling . . .

Allistair in zonko-land (asleep):

This one's a little dark, but it's hilarious, so I had to include it.  I cut some holes in a cardboard box and sat around trying to see what the kittens would do.  Allistair was the funniest, because he tried to get out through the very small holes.

Stephen ready to eat birdies: "Now if it weren't for the screen, I could EAT some!"

Look at his lovely long eyebrow whiskers!

Stephen loves to sit in the trash basket and observe the world going by.

Here's another Allistair-in-a-box picture!

Arms hangin' off the edge . . .

Tongue out (I LOVE tongue-out kitten pictures!)

This is a happy kitten!

Hope you are well, and thanks for taking a peek at the babies!

For those of you who are my friends and family members, or those of you who are just interested in more of my daily life, you're in luck!  I am going to add events and every-day occurrences to this blog.  Perhaps my new soon-to-be-born niece can check in as she's growing up and get to know me and Uncle Greg a little, since I don't make it up to frosty Minnesota more than a couple of times per year.

Each October, my best friend (other than Greg), Cindy, and I go for a day trip up to Flagstaff and take a long hike.  Last year we hiked inside an old volcano caldera.  There was even SNOW!!!  (We don't see that a lot, living in the Arizona desert, so it was very exciting.  Here are pictures).

You can see why we were keen to go back!

This year, we tried to get to the same trail head, but there had been a wildfire in the area, and there was a lot of ash and rubble that had gone all over the road.  My little Nissan Cube got stuck.  In fact, at one point, I was trying to drive out of a rut backwards down a steep hill with a very scary drop-off on one side.  Thanks to Jesus, some stud-muffiny young whippersnappers (brothers and twins) were coming down the hill and guided me slowly out of the rut and then took over in manly fashion turning my little vehicle around for me so I could drive forwards down the hill.  We decided a different hike would be better.

We went across the highway to Sunset Crater park.  There isn't a lot of hiking - it's more a place for less mobile people (or people with little kids) to drive to a scenic overlook, ooo and aaah, take pictures, then get back in the car.  But we found a road that went up a mountain to a ranger station perched on top of the ridge  overlooking the painted desert, so we tramped up there as far as we could.

Me in a cave formed by the lava when the mountain erupted.

As we climbed the mountain across from Sunset Crater, we could see the crater.  It's black all around for miles because of all the ash that blew out.  The eruption was something like 12,000 years ago, so it's been a while.

There's a little update on my October birthday hike.  Not what I expected (85 degrees instead of snow, and I definitely wasn't dressed for it!), but it was still beautiful and calming to crunch up a mountain and back down again, to say nothing of the beautiful views.

The Earth is a wonderful creation!

Adorable!

Well, these kittens aren't getting any less cute!  And their personalities are becoming even more endearing as they grow up.  They are five months and two days old today!

They love the laundry basket.

Stephen likes straddling the top of the couch.  He can keep an eye on what's going on over a wide acreage.

This picture is tiny because it was taken with Christie's cell phone and compressed, but I LOVE it.  Stephen is tasty and silly and sweet.  Kittens are just like candy.  (Only they have fewer calories!)

Almost every time anyone in the house sits down, Allistair is on top of that person.  We enjoy his people-oriented personality!

Allistair curled up behind Daddy:

He likes to be on top of us even when we're not sitting on the couch . . . sometimes he needs Daddy so much that he has to curl up on Daddy's slippers!

This was done by a small white kitten . . . named Destroy-O!

Stephen sitting by the sliding-glass door.  I want to kiss his long elegant nose.  He comes from a long line of aristocracy!

Sweet face!

Hope you all are having a GREAT weekend and that you have cute fuzzy snuggly people in your house, too!

Cat-A-Licious!

Christie says that Stephen & Allistair are the most people-oriented kittens she has ever known.  This is amazing, considering that they were born in a rosemary bush in the front yard and spent their first few weeks full of fleas and with raging eye infections.  Stephen was especially affected - he was very shy and hissed and spit at everyone who came anywhere near him.  Click here to see the very first post about Allistair and Stephen.  Click on the video that says, "Here's a story!"  You'll hear how we found Madge's litter of kittens (Allistair, Judith, Lionel, and Stephen) and how we rescued them.  Click here for the first photos of them!

Now they both start yelling, "EEP!" if they can't find us and come running when we come through the door.  ADORABLE!  (Though I admit that cooking is challenging because Allistair wants to "help"!)

Allistair also enjoys exploring new and exciting destinations!  Here is an example: the shopping bag hanging from the kitchen chair!

Rawr!!

And now I'll just sit here and look cute!

It's my own personal indoor hammock!

I have many fans.  They like it when I pose for them.

And Daddy thinks I'm cute, too!

Of course, there are many cute moments throughout each day!

Allistair's cute face close-up.

Stephen got under the fuzzy blankie and cuddled in.

Here's me!  Christie caught me giving her lovey-dovey eyes and quick snapped a photo.  I enjoy hanging off the edge of the couch like a monkey.

In the Tub!

First a few adorable photos from the last week!

Allistair on Christie's desk (of course, he likes to sleep ON whatever papers she needs, if possible;  he IS a respectable cat, after all!)

Two brothers on the couch together (Christie bought a new faux-fur blankie at Target for less than $14!)

Stephen looking pensive:

Allistair on Christie's papers again! (You'll see the printer in the background).

Pink ears!

Stephen looking sleepy and cute:

Allistair ears down, nose up!

And now I get to show you video of the kittens and their roller-derby in the tub.  They go especially crazy when anyone is in the shower, so Christie put ping pong balls in the tub to occupy them safely.

Allistair likes crumpled up paper, and he likes to grab it and take it up on top of things.  Here is took it on top of his favorite new scratching cone:

And they have figure out the cat flap! Stephen figured it out much sooner.  They go out and hunt packing peanuts from our shipping boxes (stored in the garage) and bring them in for us.  One time Stephen brought in an old dried-up hairball from Baltazar that he found.  "Look, Mom & Dad, it's a mouse!"

Right now, it's time for morning crazies.  They are making all sorts of racket and running from corner to corner of the house and crashing into things.  Their feet across the floor sound like horses' hooves.

How they survive kittenhood without brain damage is a miracle!

Happy Friday!

Fish & NEW Scratching Posts!

Kittens come up with the silliest places to squiggle into!
This is a big glass fish that Christie's parents bought in Mexico before she was born.
This fish is therefore quite old.

And then, there's this!  New scratching posts!  Christie found them at Target (of course! They seem to have everything!) and was impressed with their look and their price ($14.99).  They will look stylish just standing around the house (much like cats ourselves!)

I promised before Christie & Greg's vacation that Christie would post some video of Allistair's reaction to Greg's guitar . . . well, here it is!

A masterpiece in five parts.

Hope you enjoyed these videos!  We cats are happy that you have taken time to appreciate us.

Neutered!

Hi, this is Juvy again - I have been absent for a little while, during which time Christie & Greg have gotten settled in again after their summer vacation.  We all did very well while they were gone.  Ms. Echo, our babysitter, came over every day.  She kept me separate from everyone else just to be safe (I still tend to search out other cats on the sly and try to destroy them).

Christie & Greg are happy to be home, I can tell.  Christie kisses me a lot right on my nose, and Greg tweaks my ears.  The kittens and the other residents of the house are getting a lot of snuggles, too.

One of the first items of business to take care of was getting the boys neutered.  That took place today.  Stephen bounced right back and is as fierce as ever.  He's playing with ping pong balls right this moment.  Allistair, however, has dampened spirits.  He just seems sleepy.  It's understandable that he would have been affected more, since we discovered that Stephen weighs a full pound more than Allistair does!

And now, on to the important things: here's me on the back of the chair, looking pretty.  I am happy pretty much all the time.  I'm happy to have a family, I'm happy to have kittens to take care of, I'm happy to be getting round and sleek instead of scrawny and scruffy.

Christie had to take her special gluten-free lunch and snacks to a conference last week, so the cooler was fair game in between!  Ignore the piled-up recycling; Christie was letting the kittens play in the boxes (is that a good excuse?)

Stephen likes to snuggle.

This is what happens if Allistair jumps on the counter AGAIN.  He does it about 1,000 x per day and gets very wet.

Stephen looks alert and intelligent!

Here is Allistair watching the Olympics.

Some really cute play videos to follow (they are getting edited right this minute by Christie!)

If you haven't already seen this Japanese kitty, please go on over and meet MARU!  :)

Thanks for checking in on our little family!
